Genesis represents the culmination of 2 years composing, performing and refining a concert's worth of music. Evans wrote the first draft of music for his 2014 Issue Project Room Residency, and the band toured the material in Europe in fall of 2014 and fall of 2015. The '15 tour was recorded and pieced together to make "Genesis", a record that documents a version of the complete set the band played every night. An extra piece, the cinematic "Patient Zero" is added to the record, to show the increasingly orchestral approach the band is moving in, with the (for the first time) additional electronics added by Jim Black and Ron Stabinsky.
The Quintet has evolved over it's 5 years in existence into a one-of-a-kind ensemble: equal parts five-piece chamber group, face-melting paroxysm, electro-acoustic shapeshifter and nuanced improvisational collective. The band's commitment and rapport have made their idiosyncratic integration of improvisation, live electronics, groove, complex notation, melody and noise nearly seamless, with each composition used as a gateway into ever increasing levels of intensity, beauty and power. The long awaited follow up to Destination: Void (2014), Genesis pushes against every commonly perceived limit of a band with such an instrumentation.
